public media isn’t just Public Broadcasting

I just gave some money to soma.fm to support my addiction to Groove Salad.

Am I supporting public media? You bet.

    There is a distinction to be made here between “public media” and “public service media.”

    I believe the latter is engaged in using media to address social and community concerns. The former is more engeged in the creation of media objects by John Q. Public.

    The two have very different agendas. The challenge is to find ways to meld the two
