Making OpenID a little easier

Several sites are now featuring these new popups next to the OpenID option. I think it’s great. Let’s face it - OpenID is one of these easy ideas that gets a little complicated when you decide you want to get into it.

This box can’t clear it all up, but there’s now a link for help, and an opportunity for visitors to understand that there’s probably a service they already use that can serve as their OpenID.

Steps forward…

UPDATE: Brian Kissel of IDSelector.com has commented, giving me not only the source of this cool selector popup, but also links to add OpenID to my site (or yours). Thanks!

  1. Hi Todd,

Thanks for the kind words. We created the ID Selector for just the reason you’ve suggested. Have you looked at OpenID-enabling your site? Let us know if we can help, we have open source libraries http://openidenabled.com/ and there’s a good tutorial by Joseph Smarr of Plaxo on how to implement it at http://www.plaxo.com/api/openid_recipe. Once you’re up on OpenID, implementing the ID Selector should only take a couple of minutes.

    Cheers, Brian
