We too left the cable company. I was bummed to lose the DVR more than anything, but every single month Comcast raised our rates. Tired of their bs, we disconnected cable about three months ago and as a result our cable bill dropped $100.

We too still have the broadband internet through them. It's impressive. it powers our Wii, our laptop, and our Roku box. Easily worth the $50 a month.

The Roku box is awesome. You had mentioned netflix. The Roku box delivers Netflix queue straight to your DVR through a wifi connection in your house. Though the whole catalogue isn't on there, there is an impressive selection. After a one time investment of $100, the service is free... and just runs off your netflix service. Also, they are now hooked up with Amazon. So, I can watch the newest DVD releases, just like with on demand.

We get a great HD pic on all the local network affiliates. I only miss the food network, and espn.

I am excited to see what unfolds when the digital conversion goes down. I think my selections will either go up or down drastically. It was tough the first month or so, especially not having the DVR. Now, it is more satisfying just not paying them. If I did go back to subscription tv, I wouldn't be with Comcast. As a matter of principle, I would go to sattellite TV.

Development of digital technologies occurs prompt rates. Does not lag behind progress and digital TV. Speaking about digital TV, we first of all mean satellite TV. The digital satellite TV becomes more and more accessible to simple users. The market paid satellite tv also is not necessary on a place. The new digital standard of TV of high clearness HDTV actively develops and takes root. The satellite TV becomes more and more directed on thespectator. Besides digital quality of the image, advantage of satellite systems also is also the extensive cover zone of the companion.

Thanks for the comment! Yes, it's nice to have YouTube! I've watched Top Chef in hotels before, where "broadband" access wouldn't allow for websurfing, much less a stream from Hulu. :)

I've been an OTA TV watcher since I decided to finish my thesis in 2000 (cable presented too many opportunities to watch bios of Whitesnake over and over). I just had a rooptop antenna installed and plugged in my digital converters and I couldn't be happier (well, if all of the stations were broadcasting in digital, I guess I could be happier). Until everyone is up and running, I have my 5" B&W in the kitchen (which is getting wired to the roof on Friday) to watch my analog shows. Ever since NBCU dumped iTunes, I have felt completely justified in watching Top Chef and Project Runway on YouTube.

Rockin' post, Todd! I just heard the "video of cats doing stupid stuff" comment the other day and just about screamed. Folks that think Internet video is all crap are NOT paying attention (or are in fact paid to pooh-pooh new media).

Bravo on the change and thanks for sharing all the links and ideas. This is a fantastic resource.
