Iowa Flood: Iowa Public Television
Iowa Public Television’s Iowa Flood/Storms page is worth noting – a nice mix of IPTV video coverage, information for parents about how to talk to kids about disasters, and a Flickr photostream, among other things.
It’s impressive, and touches on all the aspects of the network’s mission, including service to Iowa and a commitment to kids and education.
I can imagine a number of pub TV stations in this situation trying to figure out what they can contribute, when they don’t have 4 hours or more of local news a day, crews generating coverage on super-tight deadlines, and ultimately, when viewers don’t expect them to try to do this stuff. But IPTV gets it right, in my view: they take their motto seriously (Iowa’s Network), and they figure out how to leverage their strengths to serve their target audience.
(Disclosure: I have a long-time working relationship with Iowa Public Television. We’ve been going steady since 1997.)

Thanks for the nice plug of our “Iowa Floods” page. I’m part of the awesome team that that pulled this all together. Kudos to them… GO TEAM!
Danny – cool to hear you’re a part of this! The IowaFlood.com page is tremendous work – thanks to all of you for giving us expatriates an inside view and for giving Iowans in thick of it so much good information.
Oh, sorry… I should have said I worked on the IPTV “Iowa Natural Disasters” page, It was/is sorta a working title, so I wasn’t comfortable using it yet. I/we were not involved with the IowaFlood.com page that you linked to. That is a great site to!
LOL oh, I thought you were moonlighting on the IowaFlood.com page. I do like IPTV’s page a lot – glad to see the network is continuing to prove its relevance to Iowa.
